How does a choreographer revisit a work shaped by one of Portugal’s most iconic voices? VASCO WELLENKAMP offers an intimate portrait of the acclaimed choreographer and artistic director of the Portuguese Contemporary Ballet Company, following his creative process as he returns to AmarAmália. Originally created for Geneva’s Grand Théâtre in 1990 and later reimagined for the Theatre of Zagreb and the Gulbenkian Ballet, the piece found new expression in 2021, in a version celebrating the centenary of Amália Rodrigues’s birth. The documentary follows that transformation, bringing audiences closer to the movement, memory and artistic vision that connect dance with the enduring voice of fado.
